Performance Reborn: Smoothdrag Carbontex Drag Kit for Daiwa Strikeforce & Mid-Range Baitcasters
The Daiwa Strikeforce, Exceler, and Megaforce series are the definition of "budget-friendly workhorses." While they are built with surprisingly resilient frames and gears, their factory drag washers—often made of felt or basic fiber—are the first things to fail. They "take a set," become jerky (stiction), or simply turn to mush after a few seasons of use.
The Smoothdrag Carbontex Drag Kit is the single most cost-effective "super-tune" for these reels. By upgrading to high-density, cross-weave carbon fiber, you replace that unpredictable "on-off" drag feel with a buttery-smooth, linear curve that protects your knots and prevents snapped lines on the strike.
Why Upgrade Your Entry-Level Daiwa to Carbontex?
-
Eliminate "Stick-Slip": Budget reels are notorious for "stuttering" when a fish first bolts. Carbontex provides zero start-up inertia, ensuring the spool turns instantly and smoothly under load.
-
Superior Heat Management: Even in smaller reels, a hard-running bass or catfish can generate significant friction heat. Carbon fiber handles these temperatures far better than factory felt, preventing drag "fade."
-
Permanent Durability: Carbontex is virtually wear-proof and won't rot or compress over time. It’s a "one and done" upgrade that will likely outlast the reel itself.
-
Linear Adjustability: Enjoy more precise control over your drag settings, allowing you to fine-tune the pressure even while fighting a fish.
Comprehensive Fitment & Compatibility
This kit is precision-lapped to fit the internal gear stacks of several popular Daiwa low-profile frames.
| Series | Compatible Models |
| Strikeforce | 100H, 100HA, 100SH |
| Exceler (Exceller) | 100H, 100HL, 100P, 100PL, 100SH |
| Megaforce / Plus | 100THS, 100TSH, Plus 100TSH |
| Aggrest | 100HSA, 100HSLA |
| Team Daiwa (TD) | TD-Pro 100H |
Technical Note: Many of these reels use a simplified 3-washer stack. Because internal tolerances on these models can vary slightly between production years, we recommend checking the high-resolution, exploded-view PDF schematics at www.reelschematic.com before opening the side plate.
Professional Installation & Lubrication Protocol
To get the most out of your new Carbontex washers, we strongly recommend a "wet drag" setup:
-
Deuthlon Reel Grease: Apply an ultra-thin, translucent coating of Deuthlon Reel Grease (or Cal’s Universal Grease) to both sides of each Carbontex washer. This specialized PTFE grease prevents "chatter" and ensures the drag remains consistent even in humid or wet conditions.
-
Metal Washer Polishing: Check your original stainless steel drive washers (the metal ones between the carbon). If they show any signs of "glassy" buildup or salt pitting, polish them with 0000 grade steel wool to a mirror finish before installing the new Carbontex.
-
Twitchin' Bar Maintenance: For Megaforce models with the "Twitchin' Bar," be careful not to over-grease the internal lever mechanism while you have the side plate off, as this can make the bar feel sluggish.
