The Scotty Auto-Stop system operates on a simple, brilliant principle. The sensor is located in the pulley assembly on the boom. This #9054 Sub-Assembly is clamped onto the downrigger cable just above your terminal tackle. When the downrigger retrieves the cable, this stopper is pulled up towards the boom. The stainless steel contacts on the stopper make contact with the sensor plates on the pulley, completing a low-voltage electrical circuit.
