Given the aggressive nature of jerkbaiting, pay close attention to the anti-reverse pawl and the main gear teeth for any signs of stress fractures or rounding.

Step 2: Thorough Degreasing

Before re-lubricating, all old grease and environmental particulates must be removed.

• Gear Cleaning: Submerge the brass main gear and the pinion gear in a solvent. Use a brush to clear the deep-cut gear teeth.

• Worm Shaft: Clean the levelwind worm shaft thoroughly. In the 13 01 model, this area often collects debris from braided lines, which can act as an abrasive if not removed.
