Technical Repair and Maintenance Article: Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5600D6 (14-00)
The Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5600D6 (14-00) is a robust, right-hand drive round reel that incorporates a unique six-pin centrifugal braking system (D6) for superior casting control. The 14-00 revision is known for its high-strength brass internals and reliable drag stack. Because this model relies on a synchronized levelwind system, the mechanical interplay between the spool and the line guide is critical. If these components are over-greased or neglected, casting distance will suffer significantly.
To maintain the precision and power of the 5600D6, we recommend a professional lubrication strategy using Deuthlon Reel Grease and Deuthlon Reel Oil.
Phase 1: Disassembly and Inspection
Begin by unscrewing the three knurled thumb screws on the right side plate. Remove the plate assembly to access the main drive gear and the pinion gear bridge. Extract the spool and inspect the six-pin centrifugal brake hub. In the 14-00 model, ensure the brake race (the metal ring inside the side plate) is clean and free of oil residue, which can cause inconsistent braking performance.
Phase 2: Systematic Degreasing
To ensure that modern lubricants can bond effectively to the metal surfaces, you must remove all old, oxidized grease and environmental grit.
-
Main Drive Train: Submerge the main gear and pinion gear in a specialized cleaning solvent. Use a soft brush to clear every tooth of the gear set.
-
Levelwind Assembly: Thoroughly degrease the worm shaft and the idler gear posts. These areas are prone to collecting dust and salt spray, which can create a grinding paste if left uncleaned.
Phase 3: Drive Train Lubrication (High Pressure)
The 5600D6 uses a heavy-duty gear set that experiences significant pressure during high-torque retrieves. This interface requires a lubricant that resists "squeeze-out."
-
Main and Pinion Gears: Apply an even coating of Deuthlon Reel Grease to the teeth of the main gear and the pinion gear. This grease is engineered with high-film-strength additives that provide a protective cushion between the metal teeth. This results in a much smoother, silent cranking experience and prevents the brass components from wearing down during heavy load cycles.
Phase 4: Levelwind and Idler Gear Service (Low Friction)
Because the levelwind is synchronized, it remains engaged during the cast. To prevent this system from acting as a mechanical brake on your lure, you must use a low-viscosity lubricant.
-
Worm Shaft (Levelwind): Apply Deuthlon Reel Oil to the grooves of the worm shaft. Oil provides a much faster surface than grease, allowing the line guide to oscillate effortlessly across the frame.
-
Idler Gears: These gears transfer rotation from the spool to the levelwind. Apply Deuthlon Reel Oil to the idler gears and their mounting posts. Using oil here instead of grease significantly lowers the rotational inertia, allowing the spool to reach peak RPMs much faster during the cast.
Phase 5: Spool Bearings and Final Reassembly
The spool bearings are the engine of your casting performance and must be kept in pristine condition.
-
Bearing Service: Apply one drop of Deuthlon Reel Oil to each cleaned spool bearing. The "Dust-Free" technology in Deuthlon oil helps repel fine particles, ensuring your bearings stay fast and quiet.
-
Reassembly: Slide the spool back into the frame. Align the side plate assembly and secure the thumb screws.
-
Calibration: Adjust the mechanical tension knob to remove side-play. With Deuthlon Reel Grease on the drive gears and Deuthlon Reel Oil on the levelwind and idler components, the 5600D6 will operate with professional-grade fluidity.
