The Ambassadeur 5000DL (Model 11-07) is a modern high-end production of the "De Luxe" series, typically reflecting a 2007 manufacturing run. While it retains the classic "DL" hallmarks—24k gold plating and a sleek finish—this iteration utilizes modern materials like the Carbon Matrix drag system and high-precision stainless steel ball bearings.

Because the 11-07 bridges the gap between a collector's masterpiece and a high-performance angling tool, it requires a "hybrid" maintenance approach. We recommend Deuthlon Reel Grease and Deuthlon Reel Oil to protect the gold accents from corrosion while ensuring the internal drive train remains buttery smooth.

Phase 1: Disassembly & "Gold Care" Standards

Modern "DL" models feature tighter tolerances than their 1960s counterparts. Even a single grain of salt or sand can mar the high-polish gold finish.

  1. Chassis Separation: Loosen the three knurled gold thumb screws on the handle-side plate. Use a soft microfiber cloth to handle the plates to prevent acidic skin oils from tarnishing the gold plating.

  2. Spool & Brake Inspection: Slide the spool out and inspect the 6-pin centrifugal brake system. Ensure the brake weights move freely and the gold-plated brake track inside the side plate is clean and dry.

  3. Drive Train Breakdown: Remove the handle assembly, star drag, and the side plate bridge. Lift out the main gear and the drag stack. Inspect the Carbon Matrix washers; they should be dry and free of old, sticky grease.

  4. Cleaning Protocol: Submerge only the internal brass gears and the worm shaft in a high-grade solvent. Avoid soaking gold-plated exterior parts in harsh chemicals. Dry all components thoroughly before applying Deuthlon lubricants.

Phase 2: Targeted Lubrication with Deuthlon

Optimal performance is achieved by using Deuthlon Reel Grease for mechanical durability and Deuthlon Reel Oil for rotational speed.

Grease: Protection for Power and Torque

The internal drive train handles the stress of the retrieve and requires the high-load capacity of Deuthlon Reel Grease.

  • Main Gear Teeth: Apply a light, uniform coat of Deuthlon Reel Grease to the brass teeth. This grease is engineered to stay bonded to the metal, providing a silent retrieve and preventing the "gear feel" that can develop in high-precision reels.

  • Pinion Gear: Coat the pinion gear extensively. This reduces friction during engagement, which is critical for maintaining a silent cast-to-retrieve transition.

  • Clutch & Yoke: Apply a small amount of grease to the sliding surfaces of the yoke to ensure the thumb bar returns to the engaged position with a crisp, reliable snap.

Oil: Velocity and Efficiency for Casting

Components that rotate at high RPMs require the ultra-low friction of Deuthlon Reel Oil.

  • Levelwind Worm Gear: Apply two drops of Deuthlon Reel Oil to the gold-plated worm shaft. Since the 5000DL features a synchronized levelwind, using oil here is the best way to prevent parasitic drag and maximize distance.

  • Idler Gears: These gears synchronize the spool's rotation with the line guide. Apply one drop of Deuthlon Reel Oil to the gear posts to reduce mechanical inertia.

  • Spool Bearings: Clean the bearings thoroughly and add exactly one drop of Deuthlon Reel Oil to each. This provides the stability needed for modern casting accuracy and high-RPM protection.

Phase 3: Reassembly & Calibration

  1. Rebuild the Drive Stack: Place the main gear and drag washers back on the drive shaft. Ensure the washers are dry and the main gear is seated perfectly flat.

  2. Integrate the Spool: Slide the spool back into the frame. Ensure the centrifugal brake weights are retracted so the side plate sits flush.

  3. Secure the Housing: Tighten the gold thumb screws in a staggered pattern. These threads are precision-cut; finger-tight is sufficient.

  4. Final Verification: Crank the handle to distribute the Deuthlon Reel Grease. The retrieve should be silent and feel substantial. Engage the freespool to confirm that the Deuthlon Reel Oil has significantly increased the spool’s spin duration.
