Product Description
Mitchell 81539 Rotor (Rotating Head) - High-Speed Replacement for 486 & 486A
The Mitchell 81539 Rotor, also known as the Rotating Head, is a high-performance replacement part specifically designed for the Mitchell 486 series. This rotor is a critical component of the retrieve system, engineered to handle the high rotational speeds and heavy-duty demands of saltwater spinning.
As the Mitchell 486 is the high-speed, Left-Hand Wind (LHW) version of the large-frame Mitchell saltwater reels, this rotor is precision-balanced to minimize vibration during rapid line retrieval. It provides the necessary structural support for the bail assembly and line roller, ensuring smooth operation even when battling large surf or offshore game fish.
Product Specifications & Compatibility
The 81539 rotor is designed for the large "486" frame size, built for durability and speed in harsh environments.

Key Features
-
Dynamic High-Speed Balance: Factory-weighted to eliminate "reel wobble" during fast retrieves, providing a stable and smooth cranking experience.
-
Corrosion-Resistant Finish: Treated with a heavy-duty marine coating to resist the corrosive effects of saltwater, sand, and constant UV exposure.
-
Robust Bail Integration: Features reinforced mounting points for the bail arm and trip mechanism, ensuring reliable opening and closing during high-impact casting.
-
Heavy-Duty Alloy Construction: Built to maintain its shape and alignment under the high torque generated by the 486’s powerful gearing and large spool capacity.
Maintenance & Installation Tip
Because the Mitchell 486 is a high-speed saltwater reel, its rotating components are subject to significant friction and environmental stress. Proper lubrication is the best way to ensure longevity.
Recommendation: We highly recommend using Deuthlon Lubrication for all Mitchell 486 maintenance. Apply Deuthlon Power Gear Grease to the rotor nut threads and the internal bail trip cam. For the bail hinges and the line roller assembly, use Deuthlon Cast Lube Oil to create a waterproof, friction-reducing barrier that prevents salt buildup.
Technical Support & Schematics
To ensure the counterweights and bail springs are correctly installed on your 486, please refer to the original PDF schematics available at www.reelschematic.com. Following the factory diagram is essential for maintaining the mechanical timing and balance of the high-speed rotating head.
