Product Description
A workhorse of the Humminbird lineup for many years, the XNT 9 SI 180 T transom mount transducer brought the revolutionary power of Side Imaging to thousands of anglers. This all-in-one transducer was the key that unlocked a clear, picture-like view of the world beneath the surface for a popular generation of fish finders. For those running classic HELIX or legacy Humminbird units, the XNT 9 SI 180 T remains the proven, factory-matched tool for effective fish and structure finding.
Key Features at a Glance:
- Three-in-One Sonar: Combines Side Imaging, Down Imaging, and traditional DualBeam 2D sonar into a single, compact unit.
- Side Imaging (SI): Delivers a 180-degree, side-to-side view of structure, vegetation, and bottom contour, allowing you to scan huge areas quickly.
- Down Imaging (DI): Provides a clear, picture-like view of what is directly below your boat, helping you distinguish fish from structure with ease.
- DualBeam 2D Sonar: Offers traditional 2D sonar returns with two distinct beam options (Wide and Narrow) for versatile fish finding.
- Built-in Temperature Sensor: Relays real-time surface water temperature to your fish finder display.
- Durable Transom Mount: Features a rugged design and includes all necessary hardware for a secure installation on the boat's transom.
Exploring the Technology:
Side Imaging (SI) and Down Imaging (DI)
The XNT 9 SI 180 T operates its imaging technology on the 455 kHz frequency. This is the foundation of Humminbird's game-changing sonar.
- Side Imaging: Transmits two razor-thin sonar beams out to each side of your boat, covering a total arc of 180°. The returning sonar signals are compiled into a detailed, easy-to-read image of the bottom. This is exceptionally effective for finding offshore rock piles, weed lines, creek channels, and other fish-holding structures without having to drive directly over them. This transducer provides a side-to-side range of up to 240 feet in each direction (480 feet total coverage).
- Down Imaging: By using the same 455 kHz frequency, this transducer takes the sonar returns from below the boat and processes them into a high-resolution image. Instead of abstract arches, you see the distinct shapes of submerged trees, brush piles, rocks, and the fish relating to them, removing much of the guesswork from traditional sonar.
DualBeam 2D Sonar
For traditional fish-finding, the XNT 9 SI 180 T utilizes Humminbird’s reliable DualBeam sonar, firing on two separate frequencies:
- 200 kHz Beam: This is the precision beam, firing downward in a narrow 20° cone. It provides the best target separation and detail, making it ideal for vertical jigging or accurately determining what is directly under the boat.
- 83 kHz Beam: This is the wide-coverage beam, operating in a 60° cone. It allows you to see a much larger area, making it perfect for searching for fish in shallower water or tracking bait balls.
Primary Compatible Models and Legacy Support
The XNT 9 SI 180 T was the factory-supplied, standard transducer for a wide range of first-generation (G1) and second-generation (G2) Humminbird models. It is the correct and intended transducer for these specific units.
HELIX Series Compatibility:
- HELIX 5 SI GPS
- HELIX 5 CHIRP SI GPS G2
- HELIX 7 SI GPS
- HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2
- HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2N
Legacy Model Compatibility (Partial List):
This transducer was also the standard for many popular legacy Side Imaging units, including:
- 698ci HD SI
- 598ci HD SI
- 597ci HD SI
CRITICAL COMPATIBILITY NOTE: This transducer is NOT compatible with any Humminbird models featuring MEGA Imaging, MEGA Imaging+, or CHIRP Dual Spectrum sonar (typically G3N, G4N, and newer). Those units require a transducer with a megahertz (MHz) crystal, which this model does not have. Using this transducer on a newer MEGA unit will result in a loss of key imaging features.
