Product Description
Hardy Perfect Fly Reel Handle Kit – Machined Brass & "Bamboo" Pearl
Restore your classic Hardy fly reel to its former glory or give it a custom aesthetic upgrade with this New Style Hardy Perfect Handle Kit. Precision-engineered for a seamless fit and a vintage feel, this kit combines the timeless look of machined brass with a high-durability handle knob that captures the elegant aesthetic of traditional bamboo.
The knob itself features a light, iridescent "pearl" finish—closer to a natural bamboo or ivory hue than standard stock photos suggest. Crafted from a dense, high-grade composite (likely fiberglass-reinforced), it offers a smooth, warm touch that only improves with use on the water.
Technical Specifications
-

Compatibility & Fitment
This kit is designed to fit a wide array of Hardy fly reels, particularly those in the "Perfect" lineage. It is a versatile choice for both vintage restorations and modern maintenance. It typically fits:
| Series | Common Models |
| Hardy Perfect | Narrow Spool, Wide Spool, and Salmon Perfects |
| Hardy Bouglé | Heritage and MK series |
| Hardy St. George | Various trout and salmon sizes |
| Hardy Marquis | Select LWT and Salmon models (check thread pitch) |
Note: Due to the long production history of Hardy reels, always verify your thread pitch. This kit is ideal for those comfortable with light reel smithing to ensure a perfect, flush finish.
Installation Guide
This is a "builder’s kit," meaning it allows for a custom, flush-mount finish rather than a generic one-size-fits-all look.
-
Thread the Post: Thread the brass post into your spool. We recommend using a drop of medium-strength thread locker to ensure it stays seated during heavy use.
-
Tighten: Use pliers (with padded jaws to protect the brass) to firmly seat the post.
-
Trim the Excess: Once the handle is assembled, use a jeweler's saw or flush cutters to remove the excess post material protruding from the knob.
-
Polish: Sand and polish the top of the brass post until it is flush and gleaming.
-
Go Fishing: Your reel is now ready for the stream with a handle that looks as good as it performs.
Recommended Maintenance
To keep your Hardy reel spinning with legendary smoothness, we recommend the following lubrication:
-
Deuthlon Reel Grease: Apply to the internal gears and the handle post base for long-lasting water resistance.
-
Deuthlon Reel Oil: A single drop on the handle spindle ensures effortless rotation and prevents corrosion.

Perfect Fit
I have an old 50’s Perfect and the handle fell off! Threads were simply gone. I ordered a new handle from Mike’s thinking I’d have to epoxy it in or drill and thread a new hole, but no! It was literally perfect. I think it cut new threads as it went in and is perfectly secure. Threw some locktite on it and we were off to the races! Landed my new PB Wild brown trout the following weekend on that reel. Thanks to Mike’s Reel Repair!
