Product Description
SHIMANO 107QJ FRICTION WASHER (BNT0799)
Essential for Backlash Control
The Shimano 107QJ Friction Washer (Part No. BNT0799) is a fundamental component of the cast control (mechanical brake) system in many classic Shimano baitcasting reels. This small, circular washer sits inside the Cast Control Cap on the handle side of the reel.
Its primary function is to provide a friction surface for the end of the spool shaft (or pinion shaft) to rub against. When you tighten the cast control knob, this washer presses against the shaft, slowing the spool's rotation to prevent overruns. Because it is a wear item constantly in contact with a spinning metal shaft, it eventually develops a divot or "pit." When this happens, fine-tuning your spool tension becomes inconsistent, leading to backlashes.

Installation Tip:
-
Removal: The old washer is often wedged tightly inside the metal Cast Control Cap. You may need a dental pick or a small needle to pry it out.
-
Lubrication: Unlike drag washers, this friction washer works best with a tiny drop of light reel oil (Shimano Bantam Oil). Do not use heavy grease, as the suction can cause the spool to lag.
-
Shims: In some "Super Free" (SF) models, there may be a tiny metal shim underneath or on top of this washer. Be careful not to throw the shim away when discarding the old washer.
