Product Description
SHIMANO 10637 CLUTCH PAWL (BNT1306)
The Link Between Handle and Clutch
The Shimano 10637 Clutch Pawl (BNT1306) is a critical stainless steel component found in the clutch linkage of Shimano's most popular baitcasting reels. This flat, uniquely shaped metal plate connects the thumb bar (clutch bar) mechanism to the clutch cam.
When you press the thumb bar to cast, this pawl is the part that physically kicks the clutch cam over, disengaging the spool. Conversely, when you turn the handle, the ratchet on the drive shaft hits the "kick lever," which pushes this pawl back to re-engage the reel. If your reel fails to go into free spool, or if the thumb bar feels "floppy" and disconnected, a bent or broken BNT1306 pawl is a common suspect.

Installation Tip: This pawl sits on a pivot post and is usually held down by a Clutch Pawl Spring (often part BNT1307). This spring is under high tension. When installing the new pawl, you must preload this spring correctly so the pawl snaps back into position. If the thumb bar feels loose after assembly, the spring likely slipped off the catch on this pawl.
