Mike's Reel Repair: Service & Warranty Information

Thank you for choosing Mike's Reel Repair! We are proud to be an authorized warranty and service center for many leading brands. Please review the following information carefully before sending your items for service.

Sending Items for Service (All Customers):

  1. Shipping Costs: You are responsible for shipping costs to our shop. All items must be shipped freight prepaid.
  2. Required Information: Please include your full name, mailing address, and telephone number inside the package.

Warranty Repair Requirements:

  • Proof of Purchase: For all warranty claims, you MUST include a valid proof of purchase (receipt) with your item.
  • Warranty Decision: Please understand that warranty eligibility cannot be determined until we physically inspect the item here at our shop.
  • Return Shipping (Warranty Items): Items repaired under warranty will be returned to you via prepaid shipping by us.

Diagnostic Fees (Non-Warranty Evaluation):

  • A diagnostic fee is charged for evaluating items not covered by warranty or if you choose not to proceed with a quoted repair.
    • Reels: $10 per reel
    • Electronics (Motors, Fish Finders, etc.): $30 per electronic item
  • Fee Applied to Repair: If you approve the repair work after diagnosis, this diagnostic fee will be applied towards your final repair cost. It is only charged if you decline the repair after evaluation.

Repair Turnaround Time & Status Updates:

  • Order of Service: Repairs are completed in the order they are received.
  • Turnaround Time: The time required depends on the current volume of repairs in our shop.
  • Status Updates:
    • To maintain efficiency, we kindly ask that you refrain from calling or emailing for status updates.
    • You will be notified automatically via an invoice the moment your repair is completed.
    • If you have not received an invoice, your repair is still in the queue or in progress. We appreciate your patience and will contact you directly if any issues arise or decisions are needed.

Instructions for Customers Outside Canada (e.g., US Customers):

To ensure smooth processing and avoid unnecessary fees when shipping from outside Canada:

  1. Customs Declaration: Clearly mark the package and customs forms as “TEMPORARY IMPORT FOR WARRANTY/REPAIR/RETURN”. Do not mark as "Merchandise" or "Sale of Goods". Check your shipping carrier's label or forms for the appropriate field (e.g., "Reason for Import").
  2. Shipping Carrier: We strongly advise against using FedEx for international shipments to us. They frequently cause delays and complications with temporary import duties. You are responsible for any outstanding duties or fees charged upon arrival.
  3. Declared Value: Declare the commercial value as $0 (Zero). If your carrier requires a value, use $1. Declaring a higher value may result in import charges which will be billed back to you.
  4. Shipping Costs: All shipments must be prepaid by you.
  5. Brokerage Fees (US Customers): If any brokerage fees are due when we receive your item, you must pay these fees before repair work begins.
  6. Insurance (Optional): Insuring your package is your decision. However, be aware that the insured value can sometimes be mistaken for the commercial value by customs, potentially leading to fees (which will be billed to you). Confirm with your carrier how insured value is treated for customs purposes. Mike's Reel Repair is not responsible for items damaged in transit to us.
  7. CUSMA/USMCA Code: Please use code 9507.30.60.00 (Fly Fishing Reels - Note: Use this code generally for reels if a more specific one isn't obvious) when possible on customs forms.

Payment, Pickup & Abandoned Items Policy:

  • Payment & Pickup: We expect prompt payment and pickup/shipping arrangements once your invoice is sent and you are notified of completion.
  • Storage Fees: Unpaid repairs left longer than 90 days after notification/invoicing are subject to a $5.00 per week storage fee.
  • Abandoned Items: Any item (paid or unpaid) left in our shop for longer than 90 days after repair completion notification will be deemed abandoned. Abandoned items will be put up for resale to recover costs or donated to a local industry-related program.
