This modern 24 00 series features a reinforced frame and a fully synchronized levelwind system. Unlike the CT models, the STSPC utilizes a comprehensive gear-driven oscillation system that remains engaged during the cast, necessitating a specific lubrication protocol to maintain maximum casting distance and cranking power.

Internal Architecture Overview

The 6500STSPC is built on a non-CT chassis, meaning the levelwind is physically linked to the spool’s rotation via an Idler Gear. This linkage ensures the line guide is always perfectly aligned with the line coming off the spool, preventing the line from digging in under heavy drag pressure. However, this synchronization creates extra friction points that must be managed with precision lubricants.

Step 1: Side Plate and Drive Train Maintenance

Begin by removing the handle assembly and the three knurled thumb screws to access the right-side internals. Lift the main gear and the drag stack off the drive shaft.

• Cleaning: Thoroughly degrease the Main Gear and Pinion Gear using a solvent bath. Inspect the teeth for any debris or salt crystallization.

• Lubrication: Apply a high-quality marine-grade grease to the teeth of the Main Gear and the Pinion Gear. Use a small brush to ensure the grease is evenly distributed. This high-viscosity lubricant provides a necessary cushion for the brass-on-brass contact during high-torque retrieves.

• Worm Gear Service: Remove the pawl from the levelwind carriage and clean the spiral grooves of the worm shaft.

• Lubrication: For both the Idler Gear and the Levelwind Worm Gear, apply Deuthlon oil. Deuthlon is specifically recommended because it provides a superior, low-drag boundary layer that protects the plastic idler gear without the "stickiness" of traditional grease. This ensures the line guide moves effortlessly during high-speed casts, minimizing the mechanical drag inherent in synchronized systems.

Step 3: Spool and Centrifugal Brake System

The 6500STSPC features a 6-pin centrifugal braking system for granular cast control.

• Brake Race: Wipe the brass ring inside the left-side plate until it is completely dry and polished. Any oil or grease on the race will cause inconsistent braking.

• Spool Bearings: Clean the stainless steel bearings in solvent. Once dry, apply one drop of ultra-light bearing oil. Do not use grease here, as it will significantly hinder the spool's startup speed.

Reassembly and Calibration

1. Alignment: Slide the spool into the frame. Rotate it slightly to ensure the spool gear meshes correctly with the Idler Gear.

2. Housing: Replace the right-side plate and tighten the thumb screws.

3. Mechanical Tension: Adjust the tension knob until there is a minute amount of side-to-side play in the spool.
