Preparation and Tools

Before beginning, ensure you have a clean, lint-free workspace. You will need:

• A flat-head screwdriver (precision grade).

• A 10mm wrench or nut driver for the handle nut.

• A pair of fine tweezers for E-clips and springs.

• Isopropyl alcohol or a dedicated degreaser.

• Deuthlon Reel Grease and Deuthlon Reel Oil.

Phase 1: External Disassembly

1. Handle Assembly: Remove the handle nut retainer screw, followed by the 10mm handle nut. Slide off the handle, the tension spring washer (curved), and the star drag wheel.

2. Side Plate Removal: Loosen the three captive thumb screws on the right side plate (cranking side). Carefully pull the side plate assembly away from the frame.

2. Secure Side Plate: Align the side plate with the frame bridge and tighten the thumb screws finger-tight.

3. Drive Stack: Reinstall the star drag, spring washer, and handle. Tighten the handle nut until snug, then align the retainer screw hole.

4. Functional Check: Engage the free-spool to ensure the pinion disengages cleanly. Spin the spool to check for any resonance or friction. Adjust the mechanical tension knob until the side-to-side play in the spool is just eliminated.
