Ambassadeur BassProAnniversary5600CDL Technical Service & Repair Guide

The Ambassadeur BassProAnniversary5600CDL (Foot Number 0600) is a collector-grade, high-performance reel featuring gold-plated accents and a classic 5600 thumb-bar design. Given its specialized status, maintaining the mechanical integrity while preserving the aesthetic finish is paramount. This professional service guide utilizes Deuthlon high-performance lubricants to ensure the reel operates as smoothly as it looks.

Phase 1: Disassembly and Care

  1. Protective Handling: When working on a CDL model, use high-quality tools to avoid marring the gold-plated screws and handle nut.

  2. Side Plate Removal: Loosen the three gold-plated thumb screws on the right side plate. Carefully pull the side plate assembly away from the frame.

  3. Spool and Levelwind: Slide the spool out and set it aside on a clean surface. To access the levelwind, unscrew the line guide nut from the bottom of the carriage to release the pawl.

  4. Drive Stack: Remove the handle nut, handle, and star drag assembly. Lift the gear side plate to reveal the main drive shaft and gear set.

Phase 2: Cleaning and Degreasing

To maximize the benefits of Deuthlon lubricants, all old grease and manufacturing oils must be removed.

  • Clean the Main Gear, Pinion Gear, and Worm Shaft using a gentle degreaser.

  • Use a cotton swab to clean the Idler Gear teeth and the inner race of the spool bearings.

  • Ensure all components are dry and free of lint before re-lubricating.

Phase 3: Strategic Lubrication

The 5600CDL requires a specific balance of lubricants: grease for the heavy-lifting drive train and oil for the fast-moving casting components.

Power and Drive Train (Grease)

The gearing in the Anniversary series is precision-cut and requires a high-tenacity lubricant.

  • Main Gear: Apply Deuthlon Reel Grease to the teeth of the main gear. This grease provides a protective film that handles high torque and reduces mechanical vibration during the retrieve.

  • Pinion Gear: Apply Deuthlon Reel Grease to the pinion gear teeth and the yoke. This ensures a "soft" engagement when the thumb bar is pressed and prevents premature wear on the spool engagement notches.

Casting and Oscillation (Oil)

To achieve the effortless casting expected of a 5600 series reel, low-viscosity lubrication is required for the levelwind and idler systems.

  • Levelwind Worm Gear: Apply two drops of Deuthlon Reel Oil to the worm shaft. This allows the line guide to oscillate with zero hesitation, which is vital for maintaining an even line lay and maximum casting distance.

  • Idler Gears: Apply Deuthlon Reel Oil to the plastic idler gears on the brake plate. Since these gears spin at high speeds during the cast, oil is preferred over grease to eliminate the "drag" that can shorten a cast.

  • Spool Bearings: Place one drop of Deuthlon Reel Oil into each bearing.

Phase 4: Reassembly and Calibration

  1. Component Integration: Reinstall the worm gear and line guide. Place the spool back into the frame, ensuring the centrifugal weights are properly seated.

  2. Gear Seating: Align the main gear and pinion gear on the bridge. Slide the side plate back onto the frame, ensuring the thumb-bar mechanism aligns correctly with the release trigger.

  3. Finishing: Secure the thumb screws. Reattach the star drag and handle.

  4. Final Adjustment: Turn the spool tension knob until the spool has minimal side-to-side play. This allows the Deuthlon Reel Oil in the bearings to perform at its peak, providing the classic Ambassadeur "free-spin" while maintaining total control.

Following this protocol with Deuthlon Reel Grease and Deuthlon Reel Oil will preserve the BassProAnniversary5600CDL as both a functional masterpiece and a durable fishing tool.
