Technical Service Protocol: Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5600Cl Rocket (12 02)

The Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5600Cl Rocket (12 02) is a legendary right-hand drive reel built for extreme casting distance and high-speed retrieval. The "Rocket" series is distinguished by its precision-balanced spool and high-speed 6.3:1 gear ratio. The 12 02 revision features specialized brass internals and a synchronized levelwind system. To maintain the "Rocket" namesake, the reel must be serviced with lubricants that can withstand high rotational heat without increasing mechanical drag.

To achieve maximum efficiency, we utilize Deuthlon Reel Grease for the heavy-duty drive train and Deuthlon Reel Oil for the high-velocity kinetic components.

Phase 1: Frame Disassembly and Cleaning

Begin by unscrewing the three knurled thumb screws on the right side plate. Remove the side plate assembly to reveal the main gear bridge. Extract the spool and inspect the centrifugal brake system. In the 12 02 model, ensure the brake weights move freely on their pins, as salt or old oil can cause them to stick.

  • Degreasing: Submerge the main gear, pinion gear, and worm shaft in a cleaning solvent.

  • Gear Detail: Use a soft-bristled brush to clear all old, oxidized lubricants from the gear teeth. For a Rocket model, even microscopic debris in the gear mesh can cause vibration during a high-speed retrieve.

Phase 2: Drive Train Lubrication (Load-Bearing)

The Rocket's power is generated by the interface of the brass main gear and the pinion gear. This area requires a lubricant that provides a high-strength film to prevent metal fatigue during heavy retrieves.

  • Main and Pinion Gears: Apply a light, consistent coating of Deuthlon Reel Grease to the teeth of the main gear and the pinion gear. This grease is formulated with high-film-strength additives that cushion the gear interaction, providing a silent, buttery-smooth retrieve. Its specialized formula ensures the grease stays bonded to the teeth, preventing it from being slung into the drag stack or the inner side plate wall.

Phase 3: Levelwind and Idler System Service (Kinetic)

Because the levelwind on the 5600Cl Rocket is synchronized, the line guide moves during the cast. To maintain the "Rocket" casting distance, you must minimize the parasitic drag in this system.

  • Worm Shaft (Levelwind): Apply Deuthlon Reel Oil to the grooves of the worm shaft. Oil provides a much faster, slicker surface than grease, allowing the line guide to oscillate across the frame with minimal resistance.

  • Idler Gears: These gears link the spool's rotation to the levelwind mechanism. Apply Deuthlon Reel Oil to the idler gears and their mounting posts. Using oil here instead of grease significantly lowers the energy required for the spool to start spinning, which is vital for long-distance casting.

Phase 4: Spool Bearings and Final Reassembly

The spool bearings are the engine of your casting performance and require a lubricant that can handle high RPMs without attracting contaminants.

  1. Bearing Service: Apply exactly one drop of Deuthlon Reel Oil to each cleaned spool bearing. Its "Dust-Free" technology helps repel fine particles, ensuring your bearings stay fast and quiet.

  2. Reassembly: Slide the spool back into the frame. Align the side plate assembly and secure the thumb screws.

  3. Function Check: Engage the free-spool and verify that the levelwind travels fluidly. The combination of Deuthlon Reel Grease on the drive gears and Deuthlon Reel Oil on the levelwind components ensures your 5600Cl Rocket operates at peak performance levels.

Technical Performance Summary

Component Lubricant Choice Advantage
Main Gear Deuthlon Reel Grease Prevents gear galling and dampens vibration.
Pinion Gear Deuthlon Reel Grease Protects gear mesh under high retrieve loads.
Worm Shaft Deuthlon Reel Oil Optimizes line guide speed and casting range.
Idler Gears Deuthlon Reel Oil Minimizes mechanical drag on the spool.
Spool Bearings Deuthlon Reel Oil Sustains high-RPM rotation with debris protection.
