Technical Repair Guide: Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5600C5 (11-00)
The Ambassadeur 5600C5 (11-00) is a hallmark of the Ultra Cast design, featuring a five-bearing system that provides exceptional smoothness and casting efficiency. Because this model utilizes high-speed ceramic bearings, the choice of lubricants and the precision of the application are vital to maintaining its high-performance standards.
Phase 1: Disassembly and Cleaning
Start by clearing a workspace and preparing your tools. This 11-00 version requires a systematic approach to protect the precision-machined internal components.
-
Frame Separation: Unscrew the three right-side thumb screws. Remove the handle-side plate and set it aside.
-
Spool Extraction: Gently slide the spool out of the frame. You will notice the spool bearings are easily accessible; these should be inspected for any signs of pitting or dryness.
-
Drive Gear Access: To reach the main gear, you must remove the handle, the star drag, and the drive shaft cover. Keep the drag washers in their specific order of removal to ensure the drag stack functions correctly upon reassembly.
-
Degreasing: Submerge all metallic gears and the worm shaft in a solvent. It is imperative to remove all factory grease or aged residue before applying new lubricants.
Phase 2: Lubrication Protocol
For maximum durability and a "like-new" feel, we recommend the application of Deuthlon Reel Grease and Deuthlon Reel Oil. These products offer superior adhesion and friction reduction.
Grease Application (Deuthlon Reel Grease):
-
Main Drive Gear: Use a small brush to apply grease to each individual tooth. The goal is to provide a protective barrier that prevents metal-on-metal wear during heavy retrieves.
-
Pinion Gear: Apply grease to the exterior teeth and the interior where the spool shaft engages. This ensures a seamless transition when the reel is shifted from free-spool back into gear.
-
Yoke & Eccentric Jack: Lightly coat these sliding surfaces to ensure the thumb bar operates with a crisp, tactile click.
Oil Application (Deuthlon Reel Oil):
-
Levelwind Worm Gear: The worm shaft is a high-speed oscillation point. Use oil here to ensure the line guide tracks across the spool with zero lag.
-
Idler Gears: These gears, which sit between the spool and the levelwind, should be oiled to maintain a low-friction rotation, which is critical for long-distance casting.
-
Ceramic Bearings: Apply one drop of Deuthlon oil to the spool bearings. This thin film provides high-speed protection without the "clogging" effect of heavier oils.
Phase 3: Reassembly and Fine-Tuning
-
Rebuild the Drag: Replace the drag washers in the original sequence into the main gear. If the washers are carbon-based, a micro-drop of grease can be used to prevent "chatter."
-
Housing Alignment: Slide the side plate back onto the frame, ensuring the pinion gear aligns perfectly with the spool shaft. Tighten the thumb screws.
-
The Spin Test: Disengage the spool and give it a firm flick. It should spin for several seconds with minimal noise. If it stops abruptly, check the idler gears for debris or over-lubrication.
-
Brake Adjustment: Fine-tune the mechanical tension knob to eliminate spool play, allowing the C5 bearings to handle the rotational load efficiently.
