To keep this vintage machine operating at its peak, a meticulous teardown and a specific lubrication regimen using premium synthetics are required.

Phase 1: Disassembly and Cleaning

Because the 5600 Plus relies on a fixed spool shaft (Ultra Cast design), cleanliness is the most critical factor in maintaining casting distance.

1. Removing the Right Side Plate: Loosen the three captive thumb screws on the handle-side plate. Carefully pull the plate assembly away from the frame.

2. Spool Extraction: Slide the spool out of the frame. You will notice the spool spins on a stationary shaft. Inspect the interior of the spool where the bearings sit; any old, dried grease here will act as a brake.

• Pinion Gear: Coat the teeth of the pinion gear and the internal slot where it interfaces with the spool. Proper lubrication here is essential for preventing wear and ensuring the reel engages crisply.

• Clutch & Kick Lever: Apply a micro-layer of grease to the sliding metal surfaces of the clutch to ensure the thumb bar operates with a positive, tactile click.

Applying Deuthlon Reel Oil:

• Levelwind Worm Gear: Apply two drops of oil to the spiral worm gear. Since the levelwind is always engaged during the cast on this model, oil provides the low-viscosity protection needed to minimize friction.
