The Ambassadeur 5500C3CT Mag Elite (09-00) is widely regarded as one of the finest long-distance casting reels ever produced by Abu Garcia. This "CT" model is factory-built without a levelwind system (non-levelwind) to eliminate the parasitic drag caused by line-guide oscillation. It also features a sophisticated magnetic braking system that allows for fine-tuned control over the spool speed. To maintain its status as a "casting machine," you must prioritize cleaning and lubrication of the high-speed components.

Phase 1: Disassembly and Specialized Inspection

Because the Mag Elite is designed for maximum RPM, the condition of the spool and bearings is paramount.

• The CT Frame: Without a levelwind, the frame is open and rigid. Inspect the interior for salt spray or corrosion, especially around the magnetic slide mechanism.

• The Magnetic Brake System: Remove the non-handle side plate to access the magnets. Ensure the slide moves smoothly; salt buildup here can lock the brakes in one position, leading to either poor distance or catastrophic backlashes.
