This model represents the "Modern Classic" era of Abu Garcia, featuring the precision of stainless steel ball bearings (the "C" designation) and the upgraded Carbon Matrix drag system.

To maintain the surgical smoothness of the 99-06 and protect its high-torque brass internals, a systematic service using Deuthlon Reel Grease and Deuthlon Reel Oil is the professional standard. These lubricants provide the film strength needed to handle heavy loads while ensuring the synchronized levelwind remains friction-free.

Phase 1: Disassembly and Internal Inspection

The 99-06 model is built with tighter tolerances than vintage 5000s, meaning old, thickened grease can significantly impact the "feel" of the retrieve.

1. Chassis Opening: Loosen the three knurled thumb screws on the handle-side plate and lift the assembly away.

2. Spool and Centrifugal Brakes: Slide the spool out. This model typically features a 6-pin centrifugal brake system. Ensure the brake weights move freely and the brass brake drum inside the side plate is clean and dry.

3. Drive Train Teardown: Remove the handle, star drag, and the side plate bridge screws. Lift out the main gear and the Carbon Matrix drag stack. Inspect the brass teeth of the main gear for any debris or microscopic wear.

4. Deep Degreasing: Submerge the main gear, pinion gear, and worm shaft in a high-grade solvent. Use a fine brush to clear the gear valleys. Ensure all parts are bone-dry before introducing Deuthlon products.

• Pinion Gear: Coat the pinion gear extensively. As the primary link between the handle and the spool, Deuthlon Grease ensures the engagement is silent and prevents metal galling.

• Clutch and Yoke: Apply a small amount of grease to the sliding surfaces of the yoke and kick lever to ensure the thumb bar returns to the "engaged" position with a crisp, reliable snap.

Oil: Velocity and Efficiency for Casting

• Stainless Ball Bearings: Clean the bearings thoroughly and add exactly one drop of Deuthlon Reel Oil to each. This provides the high-RPM stability necessary for accuracy and maximum distance.

Phase 3: Reassembly and Performance Testing

1. Rebuild the Drive Stack: Place the main gear and drag washers back on the drive shaft. Ensure the Carbon Matrix washers are clean and dry for a smooth, consistent drag curve.

2. Seat the Spool: Slide the spool back into the frame, ensuring the centrifugal brake weights are retracted so the side plate sits perfectly flush.

3. Secure the Housing: Align the side plate and tighten the thumb screws in a cross-pattern to ensure even pressure across the gear bridge.

4. Final Verification: Crank the handle to distribute the Deuthlon Reel Grease. The retrieve should be exceptionally quiet. Engage the freespool to confirm that the Deuthlon Reel Oil has significantly increased the spool’s spin duration.
