• Spool Shaft: Wipe a thin film of oil along the length of the shaft to prevent corrosion from saltwater spray.

4. Reassembly and Calibration

1. Synchronizing the Level Wind: Reinstall the worm shaft and line guide. When reinserting the spool, ensure the cogs mesh perfectly with the level wind drive gear.

2. Internal Stack: Replace the pinion gear, yoke, and main gear assembly. Ensure the drag washers are stacked in the correct "keyed" sequence.

3. Side Plate: Reattach the side plate and secure the thumb screws. Test the release button to ensure the spool turns freely.

4. Tensioning: Adjust the cast control knob (on the non-handle side) until the side-to-side play in the spool just barely disappears.
