Produced in the late 1980s, this model was designed as a budget-friendly, high-capacity utility reel. It features a simplified internal structure, a graphite-reinforced frame, and a distinct mechanical configuration that lacks the intricate ball bearings found in the "C" series.

Because the Ambassadeur 10 relies heavily on bushings and direct mechanical contact, it is prone to friction-related wear and "sluggishness." Modernizing the lubrication with Deuthlon synthetics is the single most effective way to improve its casting distance and retrieve smoothness.

Tools and Lubricants Required

1. External Disassembly

1. Handle Assembly: Remove the handle nut locking screw, the 10mm nut, and the handle arm. Take care not to lose the small star drag clicker spring (if equipped) and the tension washers under the star drag.

2. Side Plate Removal: Unlike the round reels with thumb screws, the Ambassadeur 10 often uses Phillips head screws to secure the side plates to the frame. Remove these and carefully lift the handle-side plate.

3. Spool Access: Slide the spool out. Note the fixed axle design. The "bearings" on this model are actually copper or brass bushings located in the side plates.

2. Internal Mechanical Overhaul

4. Reassembly and Testing

1. Level Wind Integration: Reinstall the worm shaft and line guide. Ensure the pawl is seated correctly.

2. Internal Stack: Replace the pinion gear, yoke, and main gear assembly. Ensure the springs are properly seated before closing the side plate.

3. Side Plate: Reattach the side plate screws. Do not over-tighten, as the screws tap directly into the graphite/composite frame.

4. Tensioning: Adjust the cast control knob until the side-to-side play in the spool just barely disappears.

Technical Performance Note
