Professional Installation & Lubrication
For these classic conventional reels, we strongly recommend a "wet drag" setup to ensure maximum smoothness and corrosion resistance:

Deuthlon Reel Grease: Apply an ultra-thin, translucent coating of Deuthlon Reel Grease (or Cal’s Universal Grease) to both sides of each Carbontex washer. This specialized PTFE-based grease prevents "chatter" and ensures the drag stays consistent even in heavy salt spray.

Drive Washer Inspection: Check your original stainless steel drive washers (the metal ones between the carbon). If they are pitted or show "blue" heat-staining, polish them with fine steel wool (0000 grade) or replace them to ensure they don't damage your new Carbontex.

Spindle Maintenance: While the side plate is off, apply a drop of Deuthlon Reel Oil to the spool bearings and spindle to restore that "like new" free-spool for better casting distance.
