Product Description
Shimano 10FJ9 Line Guide Pawl (TGT0047)
The Shimano 10FJ9 Line Guide Pawl (TGT0047) is a specialized "wear part" responsible for the lateral oscillation of the level wind system. While it performs the same function as the more common 10FFZ (BNT0042), the 10FJ9 is specifically engineered for larger-capacity round reels and offshore series. It features a slightly different geometry designed to handle the steeper groove angles of heavy-duty worm shafts.
This crescent-shaped component sits inside the line guide carriage and tracks the spiral grooves of the Worm Gear. Because the level wind moves constantly during both the cast and the retrieve, the pawl eventually develops flat spots or rounded edges. This is the most frequent cause of level wind failure in large-spool reels.

Compatibility & Fitment
The 10FJ9 (TGT0047) is the factory standard for several of Shimano's most iconic heavy-duty and offshore reels. It is a direct fit for:
-
Shimano Tekota Series: TEK-700, TEK-700LC, TEK-800, TEK-800LC
-
Shimano Calcutta Series: CT-700, CT-700B, CT-700BSV
-
Shimano Charter Special: TR-1000LD, TR-2000LD
-
Shimano TLD Star Series: TLD-15/30, TLD-20/40 (Star Drag variants)
Key Features
-
Reinforced Design: Optimized for the high-torque environments of trolling and bottom fishing.
-
Saltwater Durability: Constructed from a high-grade alloy that resists the "pitting" caused by salt spray and grit that often accumulates in the level wind guard.
-
Precision Tracking: Engineered with a specific "crescent" angle to match the wider pitch of large-spool worm gears, preventing the guide from "stalling" at the end of the stroke.
-
Direct OEM Fit: Guaranteed to sit at the correct depth within the line guide to prevent it from jumping out of the track during a fast run.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
-
The "Hang-Up" Test: If your line guide stops moving in one specific spot on the worm shaft, the 10FJ9 pawl likely has a chip in its tracking edge. Replace it immediately to prevent the pawl from "scoring" or damaging the expensive worm shaft.
-
Clean the "Pocket": When replacing the pawl, use a Q-tip to clean the inside of the Pawl Cap (TGT0048) and the carriage. Salt and sand buildup here can prevent the pawl from pivoting correctly.
-
Lubrication: Because this area is exposed to the elements, use a high-quality marine grease (like Shimano Premalube) for offshore applications. For lighter duty, a heavy oil will suffice.
Pro Tip: Always carry a spare 10FJ9 in your boat's tool kit. Level wind failures are one of the few issues that can be fixed on the water without completely disassembling the reel.
