Comprehensive Maintenance Guide: Servicing the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6000B (12-00)

The Ambassadeur 6000B (12-00) is a specialized variant featuring an integrated clicker and a robust design built for heavy freshwater and light saltwater applications. The "12-00" designation indicates a specific production run that benefits immensely from modern synthetic lubrication. Proper maintenance not only preserves the value of this 6000B series but ensures the drag and retrieve remain flawlessly smooth.

Phase 1: Internal Stripping and Cleaning

The 6000B model requires a systematic approach to ensure the clicker mechanism and drive train are properly handled.

  1. Removing the Power Side: Undo the three large bridge screws on the right side plate. Carefully pull the plate away. You will see the spool, which can now be slid out of the frame.

  2. Drive Train Breakdown: Remove the handle, star drag, and the spring washers. Take off the side plate cover to access the main gear. Carefully remove the drag washers, noting their specific order, as the 6000B relies on a precise stack for its stopping power.

  3. Levelwind Extraction: On the front of the reel, unscrew the line guide nut to release the pawl. Slide the worm gear out from the side.

  4. Decontamination: Soak the gears, bearings, and worm shaft in a high-quality degreaser. Use a brush to scrub the teeth of the main gear. Ensure the interior of the frame is wiped clean of any old, "gummy" grease that may have migrated over time.

Phase 2: High-Performance Lubrication with Deuthlon

To achieve the best possible mechanical feel, we utilize the specific viscosities of Deuthlon lubricants. This "12-00" model performs best when high-load areas are protected by grease and high-speed areas are freed by oil.

Grease Application (Heavy Gears)

Use Deuthlon Reel Grease to provide a durable, water-resistant barrier on load-bearing parts.

  • Main Gear & Pinion Gear: Apply Deuthlon Reel Grease sparingly to the gear teeth. The ceramic-based formula fills microscopic imperfections in the metal, eliminating the "chatter" often felt in older round reels.

  • Drive Shaft & Clutch: Lightly coat the base of the drive shaft and the clutch link. This ensures the 6000B engages and disengages with a crisp, tactile click.

Oil Application (Friction Reduction)

Use Deuthlon Reel Oil to maximize the efficiency of the moving parts during the cast.

  • Levelwind Worm Gear: Apply a few drops of Deuthlon Reel Oil along the length of the worm shaft. Because oil doesn't attract salt or dust as easily as grease, the levelwind will remain fast and fluid.

  • Idler Gears: The plastic idler gears that drive the levelwind system should be lubricated with Deuthlon Reel Oil. This reduces the rotational mass and keeps the levelwind synchronized without adding unnecessary drag.

  • Spool Bearings: Add one drop of oil to the bearings located on the spool shaft for maximum casting distance.

Phase 3: Reassembly and Calibration

  1. Rebuild the Levelwind: Slide the oiled worm gear back into the frame. Insert the pawl into the line guide and tighten the cap. Check that it slides freely.

  2. Reset the Drive Stack: Place the greased pinion gear back into the yoke. Reassemble the drag washers and the main gear onto the drive shaft.

  3. Secure the Side Plate: Reattach the right side plate to the frame, ensuring the gears mesh correctly before tightening the screws.

  4. Final Adjustments: Reinstall the star drag and handle. Test the clicker (the "B" in 6000B) to ensure it engages and disengages cleanly.

By applying Deuthlon Reel Grease to the gears and Deuthlon Reel Oil to the levelwind and idlers, you ensure your Ambassadeur 6000B (12-00) operates with significantly less friction and superior corrosion protection compared to standard factory lubricants.
