Phase 1: Disassembly and Inspection

1. Left Side Plate: Loosen the three captive thumb screws on the left side plate (cranking side). Carefully remove the plate to expose the main gear bridge.

2. Spool and Brake System: Slide the spool out of the frame. Inspect the six-pin centrifugal brake system. Ensure the brake weights move freely on the pins and are not stuck due to old oil buildup.

2. Internal Setup: Place the spool back into the frame. Ensure the pinion gear is correctly seated in the yoke before sliding the side plate into position.

3. Final Fastening: Tighten the thumb screws. Reinstall the star drag, spring washers, and handle.

4. Tuning: Adjust the mechanical tension knob until the spool has just a fraction of lateral play. This allows the Deuthlon Reel Oil to facilitate the highest possible rotation speed while maintaining control.
