Ambassadeur 5601SSC3 Technical Service & Repair Guide
The Ambassadeur 5601SSC3 (Foot Number 1500) is a specialized left-handed stainless steel component reel designed for high-torque environments and enhanced corrosion resistance. To maintain the precision of the C3 series while ensuring the longevity of its stainless steel parts, a meticulous service using Deuthlon high-performance lubricants is required.
Phase 1: Disassembly and Inspection
-
Left Side Plate: Loosen the three captive thumb screws on the left side plate (cranking side). Carefully remove the plate to expose the main gear bridge.
-
Spool and Brake System: Slide the spool out of the frame. Inspect the six-pin centrifugal brake system. Ensure the brake weights move freely on the pins and are not stuck due to old oil buildup.
-
Levelwind Assembly: Unscrew the line guide nut to remove the pawl. Check the pawl for "tracking" wear. Slide the worm shaft out of the frame for a complete cleaning.
Phase 2: Cleaning Protocol
Because the 5601SSC3 often sees heavy use, removing abrasive salt or grit is the first priority.
-
Degrease the Main Gear, Pinion Gear, and Worm Shaft using isopropyl alcohol.
-
Clean the Idler Gear (the white gear on the frame) and the Spool Bearings to ensure no grit remains in the races.
-
Ensure all parts are bone-dry before applying new lubricants.
Phase 3: Strategic Lubrication
For a smooth, professional-grade retrieve and maximum casting distance, the correct placement of Deuthlon products is essential.
Drive Train and Engagement (Grease)
The high-pressure contact points within the 5601SSC3 require a lubricant that can withstand significant load without migrating.
-
Main Gear: Apply an even coating of Deuthlon Reel Grease to the teeth. This grease is engineered to stay on the gear face, providing a consistent "cushion" during heavy retrieves.
-
Pinion Gear: Coat the pinion gear teeth and the yoke with Deuthlon Reel Grease. This ensures the pinion slides smoothly along the spool shaft when the thumb bar is engaged and disengaged.
Oscillating and Fast-Spinning Parts (Oil)
Components that move during the cast must remain light to minimize startup inertia and maximize distance.
-
Levelwind Worm Gear: Apply two drops of Deuthlon Reel Oil along the length of the worm shaft. Oil allows the carriage to transition at the ends of the shaft without the drag that grease can cause.
-
Idler Gears: Apply Deuthlon Reel Oil to the idler gears. Since these gears interface with the spool during the cast, using oil ensures the spool can spin at peak RPM without parasitic resistance.
-
Spool Bearings: Place a single drop of Deuthlon Reel Oil into each bearing.
Phase 4: Reassembly and Calibration
-
Levelwind Installation: Reinsert the worm gear and line guide. Install the pawl and secure the cap.
-
Internal Setup: Place the spool back into the frame. Ensure the pinion gear is correctly seated in the yoke before sliding the side plate into position.
-
Final Fastening: Tighten the thumb screws. Reinstall the star drag, spring washers, and handle.
-
Tuning: Adjust the mechanical tension knob until the spool has just a fraction of lateral play. This allows the Deuthlon Reel Oil to facilitate the highest possible rotation speed while maintaining control.
By utilizing Deuthlon Reel Grease on the power gears and Deuthlon Reel Oil on the levelwind and idler systems, your Ambassadeur 5601SSC3 will operate with improved smoothness and superior protection against the elements.
