Originally appearing in the late 1970s and early 1980s (with common date codes like 80-08-00 or 81-06-00), the "CA" models are known for their "palming cup" design—a smooth, non-handle side plate that fits comfortably in the hand. Modern "Factory Tuned" versions of the 5600CA continue this legacy with upgraded ceramic bearings and reinforced frames.

To maintain the vintage smoothness and mechanical integrity of this reel, we recommend a precision maintenance routine using Deuthlon Reel Grease and Deuthlon Reel Oil.

Phase 1: Disassembly and Thumb Bar Inspection

Begin by unscrewing the three knurled thumb screws on the right side plate. Remove the plate assembly to access the drive bridge. Extract the spool and set it aside.

• Thumb Bar Mechanism: The 5600CA uses a specialized engagement pin and pillar system (Parts #21928, #21930, #21933) to operate the clutch. Inspect these plastic and metal interfaces for old, "waxed" grease that can cause the thumb bar to feel stiff or fail to return to the locked position.

Phase 2: Systematic Cleaning and Degreasing

To restore the reel's high-speed potential, all aged lubricants must be stripped.

• Drive Train: Submerge the main gear and pinion gear in a cleaning solvent. Use a soft brush to clear the teeth of oxidized residue.

• Levelwind & Idlers: Clean the worm shaft and the plastic cog wheels (idler gears). Ensure the idler posts are polished and free of debris, as these support the synchronized levelwind during the cast.

Phase 3: High-Torque Gear Lubrication

The 5600CA depends on its heavy-duty brass main gear to provide consistent cranking power.

• Main and Pinion Gears: Apply a thin, even coat of Deuthlon Reel Grease to the gear teeth. This grease provides an "Extreme Pressure" barrier that cushions metal-on-metal contact, preventing the "gear growl" common in vintage models while ensuring a silent, buttery-smooth retrieve.

Phase 4: Levelwind and Idler System Service (Kinetic)

Because the levelwind is synchronized and moves during the cast, mechanical drag must be minimized to maintain casting distance.

• Worm Shaft (Levelwind): Apply Deuthlon Reel Oil to the grooves of the worm shaft. Oil provides a much faster surface than grease, allowing the line guide to track across the frame with minimal resistance.

2. Reassembly: Slide the spool back into the frame. Align the side plate assembly and secure the thumb screws.

3. Function Check: Engage the thumb bar and verify the spool's free-spin. The levelwind should oscillate fluidly without hesitation.
