Product Description
Shimano 10NMW Level Wind Guard (TGT0072) | Triton TR Series
The Shimano 10NMW Level Wind Guard (TGT0072) is a critical protective and structural component designed for the level-wind system of Shimano’s high-capacity Triton trolling reels. This part, often referred to as the Worm Shaft Pipe or Shield, serves as the outer housing for the worm shaft.
It provides two vital functions: it protects the precision-cut helical grooves of the worm shaft from salt spray, sand, and physical impact, and it acts as the primary guide rail upon which the line guide assembly slides. A pitted, bent, or corroded guard will cause the line guide to "stutter" or hang up, leading to uneven line stacking and potential line jams during a fight.
Product Specifications
-
Part Name: Level Wind Guard / Worm Shaft Shield
-
Shimano Part Number: 10NMW
-
Alternate Part Number: TGT0072
-
Material: Polished Chrome-Plated Brass or Stainless Alloy
-
Function: Environmental protection for the worm shaft and sliding track for the line winder.
Compatible Reel Models
While the "10NMW" prefix is used for several guard sizes, the TGT0072 specification is specifically sized for the larger frames in the Triton and SpeedMaster families. It is a direct fit for:
-
Shimano Triton: TR-200G, TR-200GT.
-
Shimano SpeedMaster: TSM 200GT, TSM 200FS (Fightin' Star).
-
Shimano Triton Speed Master: TSM 200GTFS.
Technical Tip: During installation, the slot in the guard must be aligned perfectly with the line guide pawl opening. If the guard is rotated incorrectly, the pawl cannot engage the worm shaft, and the level wind will remain stationary. Refer to the official PDF schematics at www.reelschematic.com for alignment marks.
Maintenance & Lubrication Recommendation
The level wind is the most exposed moving system on your reel. Because the line guide assembly slides directly against the exterior of the TGT0072 guard, maintaining a low-friction surface is essential. We recommend Deuthlon Lubricants:
-
For the Exterior Surface: Apply a thin, even film of Deuthlon Reel Gear Grease to the outside of the guard. This high-tack, waterproof grease prevents salt crystallization and allows the line guide to glide smoothly across the metal surface without "chatter."
-
For the Internal Worm Shaft: Use Deuthlon Power Cast Oil on the worm shaft inside the guard. This ultra-low-viscosity oil ensures the shaft can spin at high speeds during the cast or free-spool with zero resistance.
Why Choose Genuine Shimano 10NMW (TGT0072)?
-
Anti-Corrosive Finish: Shimano's proprietary plating is designed to resist "pitting," which is the primary cause of line guide failure in saltwater environments.
-
Structural Precision: The wall thickness and internal diameter are calibrated to eliminate "worm shaft whip"—the vibration that occurs when the shaft spins at high RPMs.
-
Seamless Integration: Ensures the Line Guide Pawl (TGT0047) sits at the exact depth required to engage the worm shaft without binding.
