Product Description
SHIMANO 108BK PRE-PROGRAM DIAL (TLD0009)
Set Your Drag Limit with Precision
The Shimano 108BK Pre-Program Dial (Part No. TLD0009) is the knurled adjustment knob located at the center of the drag lever on Shimano's classic lever drag reels. This critical component allows anglers to "pre-set" their drag tension at the Strike position before the line is ever in the water.
By turning this dial clockwise, you increase the pressure applied when the lever is pushed to Strike; turning it counter-clockwise reduces it. Because it is the most frequently handled part of the drag system—and sits at the furthest outboard point of the reel—it is prone to thread wear, impact damage from drops, or seizing due to salt buildup if not regularly turned.

Installation Tip:
-
Thread Care: The dial threads onto the Pinion Guard (main shaft end). These threads are fine. Never force the dial; if it resists, back it off and check for salt or debris. Cross-threading this plastic dial onto the metal shaft will ruin the dial instantly.
-
Internal Hardware: Inside this dial, there is usually a Dial Spring and a clicking mechanism. When replacing the dial, ensure you transfer or replace the spring (often TLD0012) and the Lock Spring if they are not included.
-
Operation: Always move the drag lever to the "Free" position before turning this dial. Adjusting the preset dial while the reel is in "Strike" or "Full" puts immense pressure on the threads and internal cams, leading to rapid wear.
