I do all my own maintenance on my reels, most of what are Shimano and Garcia. I have a Johnny Morris JMX10HLB XPS bait caster that's got me stumped. How do I get the handle off ? Thanks

Hi Big Bass,

These are a little tricky. On some models of these, if you don't see any sign of a handle nut cover, you have to grab the star drag with two fingers and pull towards the handle (this will lock it), then turn the handle counter clockwise to remove. I have skinned some knuckles doing this.

Good Luck
Rick

Rick,

There is no sign of a handle nut. Tried to move the star drag towards the handle and it won't move.

Thanks,
Big Bass

Rick and Ken,

Bass Pro shops responded with the reply below. (Just like Rick suggested) I'll try it again tonight at home. Thanks for your help. By the way, I really enjoy this forum.

Thanks again,
Big Bass

Thank you for contacting basspro.com. To remove the handle from the Johnny Morris model JMX10HLB Reel, tighten the star drag as much as possible, and pull the star in towards the body of the reel. While holding the star, turn the handle backwards until it comes off. To put the handle back on, hold the star in while turning the handle forward. Release the star drag. You will feel the handle lock into place. I have also attached the Owner Manual for further assistance. Please contact us again if you require further assistance. We appreciate your business.

All,

The technique for removing the handle worked like a charm. No skinned up knuckles either.

Thanks,
Big Bass
