Hi J...is this the one? discontinued in 2004, if so. Parts therefore, will dry up in due course.
You should be able to extract the spool out the back door, and then, wrap the pinion with a piece of scrap leather belt, before squeezing with a pair of vise-grips. Then, support the pliers, and gently tap the axle till the pinion lets go. It may behoove you to spray with some penetrating oil ahead of this. Have something soft under the spool in case it comes flying off, instead of gently off. You may need to round off the axle stub, after tapping, if they used a soft alloy.

| Gott her done, used an old baby diaper and a pair of needle nosed vise grips, had to wack the end of the spool pretty hard to get it broke lose and then a punch to drive it thru the gear. Looks like the reel may have been dunked at one time an not cleaned up properly. polished the shaft and the inside of the gear using a dremel tool an steel wool, oiled it up an works like a champ. again thanks for the help. | Well done, Jim ! It's good to go for years to come. Yup....cloth is as good as leather. Anything to prevent 'squishing' the teeth on the pinion, or worse, breaking a tooth off. |
