We are considering machining up idler gears for various reels that contain TWO ball bearings rather than just the standard plastic bushing or even one bearing. The prototypes we have now run like a bat outta hell.
Let us know with the poll below if we should do it, and what reels we should make them for.[/u] _________________ "Keep it outta the water damnit!"

Don't guess I registered in time to vote on this poll but I'm all for it' I'm upgrading all my reels at the moment and I'd be one the first in line.

k...finally started receiving the 'samples' back from the machine shop....first set was a bust, a month later we got another few back with better tolerances but they didn't spin worth a ****. Back to the drawing board. They were talking about military and airplane tolerances and such, not to mention the whack of cash to try and get set up.
I'm thinking now to have the gears made from brass, aluminum, or?? for better machineability and precision. I think if ONE factory touches the gear from start to finish then we can get these to work right.
In the works will be dual brg idlers for Abu 4000-600's, Abu 7000's, Shimano Calcutta's, Maybe even for some Daiwa's if there is enough call for them.
Ideas?

I may be way out on a limb here, in addition to being very late to respond to the poll, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could sell a ton of them to fit 1500C and 2500C. I'd certainly buy some (along with all the other ABU sizes).

Hi, Mike, after re-reading the opening post, I'm uncertain as what you're doing... Are you planning on placing two thin ball bearings in an idler gear, instead of a thicker one, or are you planning on making up bb'd idler gears for reels presently without one.

..still in the works, precision machining seems to be the issue, and getting the price of the precision down to an acceptable level. I am considering, now, having the idlers re-cast in metal with the bearing pockets in them.
The initial cost may be more, but we can be sure that the precision we need will be there.
Stay tuned _________________ "Keep it outta the water damnit!"

I just installed the bearing idler gear in my 5500C3 and am very happy with it. Any word if these are going to be available for the 7000’s?
