I have a Minn Kota Riptide (saltwater series) 70-lb thrust, 24-volt, manual control, bow mount, 4-years old. Its running with about half the thrust it had when new.
Current draw is 53 to 55 amps at top speed. Its tripping my breaker after a short run on high setting and motor gets quite warm after a short amount of use. Been told on another forum that it should draw no more than 40 to 45 amps and it could be one of three things bad: speed coil, armature, or magnets.
I've been through all of the typical stuff: fouled line, batteries, connections. I opened the motor to look inside at brushes. It all looks good!
I'm a good mechanic but this electrical stuff kills me. I'm all but ready to go buy a new motor assy and shaft since it can't be reused. The $200 really stinks in my opinion for a 4-season old motor. Any way to narrow this down to the exact part that's causing me this trouble? |
