|

I'm quite certain that Abu made only the one set of SS gears, for the 6500 HCL variant. Mike's got that schematic on site. Page 6 of the Abu drawings. Further details as they happen as the query's been put to the factory.
PN's are: 23427, and 23428 (428 is the pinion)
CAVEAT/PROVISO/WOAH !! Sight unseen, the pinion may not fit the standard ultracast clutch....the HCL has the ball bearings outside the spool, not inside, like a common uc model...meaning that the contour of the pinion might not mate with the clutch washer, on the 4-5-6 reels.
BUT.....based on what I see on the schematic (the little bell flare at the base of the pinion), it should be fine. Otherwise, it's a 14.00 bill plus stamps, and taxes.
Thanks to the following folks who pinpointed the model:
Wayne at Real's Reels, Jay at Purefishing, Julie and Bob at Purefishing.

C/R: What's a JB? I recall you mentioned that model in your thread on hot mods... but I didn't twig to the JB part.
Got a schematic? I cannot seem to find one on the web anywhere. |

Hi, John....welcome. As at the start of this thread, at Purefishing, there is no online schematic for the inshores available, so the only way to get the part numbers is to buy a reel, wait for a reader of the thread to post, if he/she bought one, or visit a store carrying them and ask for a copy of the schematic, without buying the reel.
Also.... the reel appears to be a rightie, not a lefty, as per the link to Castaway, and the resulting advert there.
Soon enough Purefishing will have a schematic.
Is there something wrong with the JB stainless set? They are available....and LH drive.
You can read all about it at your favourite search engine, using 5601 jerkbait. |

Hi, RW.... what does the brake puck look like? 6 'flyweights', or 2?
If it's a 6, then there's a good chance the pinion is a 4-slot.
Those part numbers are very new, and not showing up yet, at Mike's list.
There was a thread somewhere, either here, or on another forum, where the poster used a 2-slot pinion with the 6-puck brake system. He said it would not work.
It does work. I removed the 6.3-1 gearing from a pair of today's red 6600's with the 6-puck setup, and installed the 3.8-1 winch gear system with a 2-slot pinion.
The guy I did it for had no complaints, no failures, and caught some very nice salmon with them. |

It is a 4 brake system, and it is metal, as of right now you have to buy the axle and spool and brake as one item. I will try to call ABU and find out if the Pinion is 2 or 4 slot. I thought that the slots on the pinion gear is cut deeper on the 4 slot pinions, the 2 slot pinion gear slots are not as deep ????? _________________ Richard W Schmitz |

Sounds good, RW.....in this small market, we may see the inshore reel by summer of '09. And if it's priced significantly higher than a typical core C3,
it won't sell very well.
Fishers who come here (this is a destination market) already have all their stuff. Locals tend to replace their C3s with the same as.
While you are in contact with Purefishing, could you ask about the schematic? If they have it now, let us know. Thanks. KD |
